Hey guys it is Casey back here with yet another post where today I will post the first of my reading (b)logs where basically I read a book of my choice and form an opinion on it and I chose Magisterium the iron trial as my first book so I hope you all enjoy.
This book is about Callum Hunt who has had a problem with his leg ever since he was a baby & now 12 years after that event he tries to fail the Magisterium's iron trial because of all the stuff his father has told him but he is a boy who fails at failing and gets himself the opposite of what he wanted.Call is now enrolled at the Magisterium and is caught in the fact that his life may not be as it seems and he gradually learns secrets which lead into more mystery than before.
Opinion 1
The character of Callum Hunt is an interesting one as he is not your typical protagonist as he does not want to learn magic because of what his father has told him as opposed to every other protagonist who would jump at the opportunity. For example when he is in the iron trial he repeatedly tries to fail but accidentally succeeds for some reason that Master Rufus does not explain in the book but my assumption is that he wanted to teach Call how to control his abilities & to reveal to him what he can truly do.
I think that it is meant to show that people who are really bad at something can rise up & potentially be one of the best at that thing with the right teacher and training and I can sort of relate to Call as he is an outcast much like me and he seems to outperform everybody else but not in the way that you would expect which even though I cannot connect with I would find admirable and the fact that he attempts to find loopholes is something that I would definitely do & I feel like we would really connect that way.
Opinion 2
The primary location of the book is also unique in a way because it is a unique form of magical school mostly because it is a complex of tunnels and caverns built inside of a mountain and it is so complex that you can get lost easily as a first year which is stated about halfway through the book by Call,Tamara & Aaron.I like the setting because of all the wonders it has ranging from magical pools of water to caverns big enough for 3 Dragons which is absolutely nuts even for fantasy and their whole elemental magic system is awesome as well because their is a lot you can do with it and in my mind would be considered a soft magic system.A soft magic system is a magic system with very few rules stated meaning its limits are unknown. The elementals are also something that I love as every fantasy story needs at least a few magical creatures and the elementals are perfect for the roll.
To put things simply, I love the magisterium and its unique location with a tonne of possibilitys and if I was there then I would probably try to see everything it has to offer.I guess the lesson you can take away from this is that every location is unique in its own way with some places being more unique than others.
This books location can speak to everyone because it could be like a Utopia for us & who would not want to go there and I guess the lesson you can take away from this is that no matter where you come from ,you can always find a place that truly speaks to you
Anyway guys I hope you enjoyed this post and quick heads up, there will be 5 more of these throughout the year so stay tuned for that and I will see you all in the next post bye bye.
