Hey guys it is Casey back here again with a brand new post. Today I am in English talking more about Mad Max fury road. More specifically, I am doing a character study regarding Max Rockatansky. So sit back and enjoy.
At the beginning of the film, we could say that Max is in a state of the hero's journey known as the belly of the whale. I say this because of all the voices we hear that are going through his head as he is standing on that plateau when we meet him. He is mentally scarred because of all the people he could not save before. He copes with this by being the one who "runs from both the living and the dead" and has since been alone in the wasteland for the longest time. This has also made him embrace his more beast-like nature as he is described as a "raging feral" by Slit when he is in the holding cell when we meet Nux. All of this makes us see Max as a victim of society or what is left of it in this world. He has been reduced to a single instinct and that is to survive. This could be George Miller telling us how the standards of society can be negative to those in the minority who do not have the luxury that the wealthy do. Along with how the rich do not care about those less fortunate. Max's journey alludes heavily to that of Odysseus from the odyssey as someone who went through more than he really needed to in order to get to where he was going. The only difference is that Max was just along for the ride in this story and not the main focal point and had no real destination he was trying to get to.
Anyway I hope you all enjoyed and I will see you all in the next post bye bye.
